What’s in my Toiletry Kit?

After creating these two TikToks, I started getting a ton of questions about the sustainable products I pack in my toiletry kit, and use every day in my morning routine. So, I’ve created this list for you below so you can check out the products for yourself and see if you can make some sustainable swaps in your current personal care routines.

But please REMEMBER! The most sustainable thing you can do is use up everything you gave first, before you buy something new. For example, if you’re making the switch to a toothpaste tablet instead of a toothpaste in a plastic tube, please use up all of your current toothpaste, rinse out the tube, and dispose of it properly before you buy / use a new product.

One of my favorite quotes is, “We can’t buy our way out of climate change,” and I interpret it as buying new products will not solve the climate crisis, but rather reflecting on our overall consumption and footprint, and then immediately acting accordingly to curb our appetite, and minimize our waste overall.

Here are the two TikToks in case you haven’t seen them yet:

And here are the products I’m using in each of the videos.

Two great places to get your sustainable products are Earth Hero and Package Free Shop.

(Use LAURENF10 for 10% off your Earth Hero order!)

Both companies ship in plastic-free packaging, and carbon-neutral shipping. They’re both very active in the environmental justice conversations, and use their platform to promote inclusivity and grassroots activism.

What’s in my Toiletry Kit?

  • Refillable silicone shampoo + conditioner bottles

    • I got mine from Target but it looks like Package Free has some great options.

  • Aluminum tin + bar soap

    • I found the tin at my mom’s house, I think it was an old mint tin, but LUSH makes a great one for shampoo + conditioner bars too.

    • The bar soap are little bits + pieces I’ve collected from hotel rooms.

  • Leaf Razor

    • I cannot applaud this Leaf Razor enough because it’s been an absolute game changer for me. I used to use a heavy, single-blade safety razor, but found that I would knick and cut myself on accident almost every time I used it. This Leaf Razor has a pivoting head that gets such a close shave without the knicks. You can learn how to use it by this TikTok I’ve made.

  • Huppy Toothpaste Tabs

    • Toothpaste tablets are entering the sustainability scene as an easy plastic-free alternative to toothpaste that comes in a plastic tube. My favorite brand is Huppy, and they come in compostable packaging and a refillable aluminum tin. You can watch my TikTok to learn how easy they are to use!

  • Bamboo Toothbrush

    • After finding so many plastic toothbrushes at my local beach cleanups - I committed to never using a plastic toothbrush again! I typically use a Mable toothbrush, but have recently found out about Brush with Bamboo, who’s bristles are made from bioplastics and are industrial compostable.

  • Silk Floss

  • Reef-Safe Sunscreen

  • Diva Cup

    • I made the switch to a menstrual cup about three years ago and haven’t looked back! The one in my TikTok is a Diva Cup, but there are other great ones like the Flex cup which has a ring pull, or the Dot cup. It pays for itself in 2 period cycles, and will make you so much more aware of your menstrual cycle and overall health.

  • Plaine Products Face Moisturizer

    • Plaine Products is amazing because they’re a closed-loop refillable product line, where you send back your empty aluminum bottles in exchange for a refilled bottle - straight to your door! They’re a California-based, women-owned company, and I’ve been a fan of theirs for years!

    • Use RELAUREN20 for 20% off your order!

  • Meow Meow Tweet Deodorant

    • I love this deodorant because it’s packaged in 100% biodegradable packaging which means it’s safe for your at-home compost pile!

Other Items:

  • KooShoo organic cotton hair tie

    • Made with only organic cotton + rubber, these hair ties are another great sustainable swap to keep around.

  • Meow Meow Tweet Charcoal Facial Bar

    • If you want a simple, clarifying way to wash your face, I highly recommend this facial bar.

  • Meow Meow Tweet Face Toner

    • After you wash your face, to keep things hydrated and moisturized, I always go with a few sprays of this toner. It also comes in a cute glass bottle that you can reuse for DIY home cleaner or any other product.
